Calcium fluoride (CaF₂) combines low dispersion, pronounced anomalous partial dispersion and very broad spectral transmission.

Optical Properties
CaF₂ is particularly useful for chromatic correction in demanding optical systems. Compared with many optical glasses, its combination of low dispersion and anomalous partial dispersion provides additional freedom in broadband color correction.
Broad Spectral Range
Depending on substrate thickness and material grade, CaF₂ offers high transmission from the vacuum ultraviolet far into the infrared. It is therefore relevant not only to visible optics but also to UV, IR and broadband systems.
Large Dimensions
CaF₂ is available in larger dimensions than many ED glasses and can therefore be used for large-format precision optics.
